I think I mentioned something about the squirrels in the first post I made here. Pony hasn't done anything crazy lately. Maybe she is maturing. Doubt it, probably just waiting so she can surprise me with something big in a few weeks.
But back to the squirrels. We have 3 squirrels here with half tails. And another squirrel friend they have had to have a memorial service for. The squirrels are angry. Angry that Pony won't share her food with them. War was declared last year and I noticed that we had a little guy scampering around one day with half a tail. I figured one of our barn cats got him, as I seen Ashes playing with a bit of fur in the field the day before, and he lucked out and got away somehow.
Then I seen another squirrel with half a tail. I knew it wasn't the same one, because he was sitting on the fence next to the original one. "Okay...so my cat's aren't great hunters." I thought.
I go to pour Pony's feed into her pan and go brush and scritch on the other mare some and, I don't believe what I see next. Another squirrel hops down and gets INTO the feed tub with Pony's head in there. Pony didn't learn to share in kindergarten. Pony picks up squirrel by the tail and shakes it around a bit and flings it. Only, it's not a fling. The tail ripped off!
It wasn't the cats, it was my blasted PONY. Ripping off tails of squirrels. Seriously Pony???
So I moved her feed tub to the other side of the field the next day. Another little squirrel comes to investigate (we have an endless supply of these guys around here I think). He hops down beside her and picks up bits of things she's knocked out of her feed tub. Without batting an eye, she picks up a front leg and just stomps down. R.I.P. Squirrel #4
That was the last I seen of squirrels going near Pony, but who knows what they've been planning over the winter. I only hope Pony and the Squirrels can come to a peace agreement soon.

Brush It Off Pony...
so, every day when I go out to feed the ponies, they come running to greet me at the fence. The past few days have been gorgeous out, the snow is melted, the fields are a bit muddy from that. But the sunshine and wind has dried stuff up quite a bit, but not everywhere. It doesn't help that there is a natural spring that feeds into the field.
At any rate, today the pony was feeling extra frisky. Most likely due to this gorgeous weather. She ran nickering to the gate as I entered. And then took off running and bucking and leaping as soon as I kissed at her to move off. She ran around back behind the barn as I was going in the barn, went to put the brakes on to turn and promptly fell flat on her side. Hopped up and continued on her wild bucking, farting, kicking out streak.
Brush it off Pony, just brush it off!
What a goober! LOL

Carrots vs Apples
Carrots win. At least for pony they do. Why? Apples are so much tastier. Well, unless you have ranch dressing. Then carrots win (who wants to dip an apple in ranch? ewwwww!)
But yes. The carrots were gobbled up by both ponies actually. Apples were later eaten by the garbage disposal (err...haflinger).
Good thing the pony didn't realize I had a tin of altoids in my pocket. I'd probably just now be picking myself up from the ground from a knock-down mugging of pony greed.

Oh...Pony...
Some days, I tell you. I need to keep track of all the times I look at my little black and white mare and go, "oh...pony...." and shake my head. And yes, she is a pony, not just a horse I call a pony.
Yes...she's a filthy mess in that photo. And her hair is just an unruly mop. She's got a bit more black on the other side, which is also the side that has her "crazy eye" as most people call it. I just call it blue though
She's a fun little beastie though, if not a bit messed up in the head at times. Regardless, I trust her completely when riding her, and most of the time when she's not being ridden. Nah, I trust her.
She's my little bug and I wouldn't trade her for the world. Even if the squirrels around here think she needs to find a new home (or at least share her food with them)
